If you are the bully, Brignolo: “How I managed to stop”

Ugly beast bullying. The notebooks thrown out the window, the kicks in the street, the spitting, the obligation to crawl into the luggage rack of the train. «Because I was a boy just over five feet tall, born in a small village. And when I arrived at the professional institute of Asti that I had chosen as a high school, the nightmare began ».

To tell us his story on the occasion of the National Day Against Bullying, which is celebrated today, February 7 is Fabrizio Brignolo, 33, now comedian by profession and ambassador for the ACBS no to bullying association.

After having suffered for a long time, remaining in silence and without saying anything to his family out of shame but also for fear of making them suffer, Fabrizio sought answers from the professors, which did not arrive. “For the others I was the dwarf, the spy, the one to wait out of school and beat up.” When Fabrizio couldn’t make it anymore he made a decision: to take the side of the strongest. “So I started doing what they asked me and from being bullied I became a bully too. I tried to take sides in the service of the powerful to have their protection ».

However, time did not make Fabrizio forget what he had experienced, the violence of the early years. «I was a vocalist in the only nightclub in my city and I had acquired a position even in the eyes of the biggest bullies. So I tried to vary the violence by bringing out my comic part. And so my character was born too. I started making fun of them too, playing down with irony and no longer violence. For example, instead of burning the kids with the lighter, draw a writing on their forehead with a marker. An inscription lasts a day, a burn for a lifetime. And I succeeded, with sympathy I made many bullies change their minds ».

This modality is the one that Fabrizio Brignolo brings to schools today. “I always say we defeat bullying with a smile. The institute where I went has become a flag against bullying despite being a professional school, it even has an inside desk dedicated to bullying. To all the students I meet, I repeat that none of us have a real problem but it is the others who try to make us believe that we are wrong ».

From his story, Fabrizio Brignolo has also drawn a show, from this a show was also born. “Is called Low enough to make you laugh where the characters tell that my diversity has become a strength for myself my future. The same one that led me to arrive also on television, in comic broadcasts such as television programs such as Made in Sud and Colorado where I would have been this year if there hadn’t been covid ».
