“If you love them, don’t eat them”, the VIP appeals not to eat lamb at Easter

«My friend and I greet you! And please don’t eat them! ” writes Eva Riccobono next to his photo with a lamb. “I don’t like telling others what to do. I would just like to invite you to reflect if it is really necessary, ”she echoes Matilde Gioli.

As every Easter there are many invitations not to eat lambs. In Milan in recent days there was a flash mob of a group of animal rights activists promoted by Animal Save in Piazza Duomo. The activists they staged the killing of a lamb to raise public awareness against the tradition of eating lambs for Easter.

The Lav initiative is entitled “If you love them, don’t eat them” and proposes a series of recipes to avoid lamb meat.

An ever-present voice is that of Michela Vittoria Brambilla which invites us to choose life in the face of a slaughter that it defines as unjustified. “Eating the meat of puppies is the furthest thing you can imagine from the spirit of a party that celebrates the resurrection and life”.

In the last decade the number of lambs and kids slaughtered for Easter has more than halved: from about 812 thousand in 2010 to 360 thousand in 2020. Even if the trend is decreasing, «we are nevertheless facing an unjustifiable slaughter. As long as he runs the risk of ending up on his plate even a single lamb, we will never stop raising awareness and trying in every way to persuade everyone to overcome a tradition with brutal implications ».
