If you want to try a robot vacuum cleaner, HONOR has an inexpensive one: Choice Robot Cleaner R1

Robot vacuum cleaners are quite interesting devices, which, however, often scare off potential buyers with their price. Often, good models are given for 30, 35 or even 40 thousand rubles. However, fortunately for those who are already tired of running around with a classic vacuum cleaner, but who are not yet ready to shell out a round sum for a smart assistant, cheaper devices are increasingly appearing on the market. We will talk about one of these today. Meet – this is HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1, and it costs about 15,000 rubles.

Equipment

There is everything you need

Before turning on the vacuum cleaner and letting it look around, let’s unpack it. I would say that the equipment of the HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1 is quite standard, if not for one detail – the remote control. Perhaps someone has already made vacuum cleaners with remotes, but in my practice this is the first. Why it is needed, I will tell later, right now I will note that it is assembled quite qualitatively and in design it resembles what is put in the kit for modern TVs. As for the rest of the accessories, in the box the buyer will also find a multifunctional brush with a blade for cleaning the vacuum cleaner and an additional nozzle with a rag and a water tank.

Design

Nothing unusual

In terms of appearance, the HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1 has nothing to boast of compared to competitors – a typical spaceship on small rubber wheels. Of the pluses, I note that dust and fingerprints are not as noticeable on white plastic as on black, from which only a small strip is made on the case, under which sensors and sensors are hidden.

On the top of the vacuum cleaner there is a “Clean” button, by clicking on which you can start cleaning or reset the device to factory settings. However, this is not the only control in the HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1. In the recess on the side is a toggle switch for on / off, adjacent to the hole for wired charging. The latter is probably provided in case of problems with traditional wireless charging for robotic vacuum cleaners.

Vacuum cleaner at work

Few features, but convenient operation

As for the cleaning itself, the HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1 cannot boast of a record suction power (only 2600 Pa) – the low price tag still affects here. However, it cannot be said that the vacuum cleaner does a poor job of cleaning. In my opinion, it is saved by brushes that protrude strongly from the body, which capture a fairly large space around the vacuum cleaner and collect all the debris from it inside.

All dust is collected in a flat container with a volume of 510 ml, which is easily removed from the vacuum cleaner. To empty it, just open the container like a book by holding the button on the side. Inside there is a filter that can be washed independently as it gets dirty.

In addition to dry cleaning, the vacuum cleaner can also perform wet cleaning. To do this, you need to install a special container with a capacity of 300 ml with a blue rag. The latter, by the way, rests on small elastic bands, so there are no problems with its removal for subsequent cleaning. However, for me, mopping did not become a selling feature of the HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1, as it does it through the sleeves. Even if you select the maximum water spray mode in the application, the effect of the vacuum cleaner is barely noticeable. Moreover, hair and wool accumulate on a rag quite quickly, even if you have thoroughly vacuumed it before.

The most unusual compromise “price – opportunities” for me was the lack of a function to create a virtual map of the house. Typically, robot vacuum cleaners scan the space they are about to clean when first turned on and then draw up a 2D plan visible in the application, on which no-go areas can be marked. Here, there is no such function – HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1 is removed, as they say, to the touch, driving around the room in zigzags. The application even has a note that the map is used only for demonstration and does not represent any practical value.

However, removing one option, HONOR added another – remote control using the remote control. This is a trouble-free and quite convenient way to vacuum a specific place. Since there is no automation that would allow you to send the HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1 to a specific place on the map, you yourself take it there using the buttons on the remote control and then press the button with the image of a snake. The vacuum cleaner will clean a 1×1 meter square and wait for further instructions. Before charging, albeit not quickly, he gets after that himself – there is a separate button for this.

Battery

Excellent battery life

The built-in 2600 mAh battery is enough for an apartment with several rooms – the manufacturer claims 120 minutes of battery life, and this is not far from the truth. In my use case (cleaning a 20 m² room), the battery never dropped below 85%. Apparently, the lack of a room scanning function has a positive effect on autonomy.

Review

After a week of use

Summing up, I would like to say that HONOR Choice Robot Cleaner R1 is an interesting device in terms of price-quality ratio. Despite the fact that it lacks some of the features typical of robotic vacuum cleaners, such as creating a virtual map with restricted areas, I understand the logic behind its use. This is a simple device that allows you to get acquainted with the technology and decide if you need it. Separately, I note the ability to control the remote control – a convenient solution to the problem with the lack of a card.

As for the experience of using the vacuum cleaner for its intended purpose, I was dissatisfied with the quality of mopping, but dry cleaning is good for him. There is no need to vacuum again after the vacuum has passed around the room.

pros

  • Reasonable price tag.
  • Convenient remote control included.
  • Long battery life.

Minuses

  • Mediocre wet cleaning.
  • There is no way to scan the room.
