“If you’re sick, prove it!”: A manager’s outburst at workers had consequences

Rage has caused an outburst manager during the holiday season, which resulted in his dismissal. The manager at Italian restaurant One Olive Garden saw the exit door when parent company Darden took action after what the Kansas worker wrote went viral, which backfired on her profile.

“From now on, if you say you won’t come to work, you better go and look for another job”the now-fired manager wrote, according to the KCTV5 network, noting that excuses will not be tolerated.

“If you are sick, you must come and prove it to us. If your dog died, you have to bring him to prove it to us”he continued in his delirium.

Exasperated by staff shortages during the holiday season, when he has more work, he went so far as to say that if an employee uses “an emergency family matter” as a reason not to show up, he must disclose details.

“If you can’t, too bad,” he noted, stressing that the worker can be fired if he doesn’t give a satisfactory explanation.

“If someone is absent more than once in the next 30 days, they will not have a job”he underlined.

In his ultimatum he highlighted his own outstanding performance over a period of more than 10 years at the company. “I came sick. I crashed and, you know what, I got to work ON TIME. There are no more excuses. If you’re here to work and you want to work, work.”

“This message is inconsistent with our company’s values,” was the response from a Darden spokesperson on KCTV5. “We can confirm that we have gone our separate ways with this manager”.
