Ikea Ljuvare: Middle Eastern traditions meet Scandinavian design

Born from the meeting with the famous designer libanese Nada Debs the Ljuvare collection by Ikea, inspired by the hot days and cold starry nights of the desert.

Hand-drawn with Ikea designer Paulina Machado, Ljuvare is a bold mix of Middle Eastern design elements and Scandinavian style, which breaks the mold of the Lebanese aesthetic tradition. The reassuring natural shades of orange and cream are combined with the sheen of gold, worked with ancient traditional techniques, to give life to a festive atmosphere and to bring the magic of oriental nights to all homes.

Reinterpretation of traditions in a modern way

All the pieces of the Ljuvare collection – which in Swedish means “most delicious” – are characterized by an artisanal attention to detail, which can be seen in particular in the decorative lanterns with an antique charm. To create these pieces, designer Nada Debs drew inspiration from brass objects traditionally used in Middle Eastern culture, where golden tones are a symbol of wealth.

And to give character to the environment, it is possible to combine the warm color of the covers with gold pillow orange. Made of cotton satin, these covers pay homage to tradition while maintaining a modern appeal.

Style and comfort for the home

Geometric motifs, widely used in Middle Eastern culture, come back to life in candle holders and pillow covers, easy to combine with other motifs. Available in three different sizes and heights, the Ljuvare candle holder is a decorative object that gives character to the environment even when the candle is out and that, through the geometric pattern, creates bewitching play of light and shadows.

“I am increasingly determined to preserve our culture and heritage, working closely with local artisans to keep traditional techniques alive,” she says Nothing Debs who, together with Ikea designer Paulina Machado, collaborated to find the right proportion and shape for each piece, using ancient processing techniques, still used today in the Middle East.

«The Ljuvare collection is about the celebration and pleasure of each other’s company. Even though we are currently limiting our social gatherings due to the pandemic, I have this image in my head: a quiet and welcoming environment where you eat and enjoy the company of friends and family “, he continues Paulina Machado, Ikea designer.
