I’ll do anything to uphold women’s rights, says Biden on anti-abortion decision

US President Joe Biden said on Friday that he would “do everything to ensure women’s rights.” The pronouncement comes after the US Supreme Court struck down a federal law that guaranteed the termination of pregnancy in the country.

Biden pointed out that the suspension of the Roe Vs Wade law takes away a “fundamental constitutional right” of women and that the decision will have immediate and real reactions. The Democrat said he was amazed that doctors will be criminalized for their duty of care and that women will be punished for protecting their health.

“It is cruel that state laws end up criminalizing abortion, and with that, we will return to a situation of the 1830s. It will take women to more than 150 years of regression of rights”, he evaluated.

On the other hand, the American president stressed that “the fight is not over”. Biden urged Congress to act to uphold federal law.
