Illegal home mining farm closed in Ukraine

Kryvyi Rih police discovered an illegal cryptocurrency mining farm in the apartment of one of the residents of the Ukrainian city.

According to a statement from the Dnipropetrovsk region police, last weekend, law enforcement agencies exposed a cryptocurrency mining farm that was located in the apartment of a 32-year-old resident of Krivoy Rog. The mining farm consisted of video cards, motherboards, and power supplies.

According to the police, at the time of the search, the electric meter in the apartment was working and was connected to the mains. To reduce energy costs, an attacker disrupted the meter using a magnet. The police are now establishing the amount of damage resulting from illegal mining power consumption.

Law enforcers opened a criminal case under Article 188-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – theft of electricity without metering devices. Farm owners can get up to three years in prison.

Law enforcement agencies of many countries are engaged in the fight against illegal mining. In August, Spanish police stopped an illegal mining farm operating through an illegal electrical connection in the Toledo area, and Polish police found an illegal mining farm in their own building.
