Apple has no more failures than other companies. But it is precisely the failures of the technology manufacturer with the central campus in Cupertino that are most protested on social networks and thematic media. This is not surprising, because you cannot be neutral about Apple. The company has either inveterate fans who really worry about the manufacturer’s problems and themselves are faced with unsuccessful solutions in his technique, or haters. Do not feed the latter with bread, let them laugh at the company and its fans, who, as in the anecdote about mice, “cry, prick, but continue to eat cactus”. All failures can be divided into funny 🤪 and sad 😢.
iPhone 4 (2010) 😢
Lost connectivity due to misplaced antennas
The iPhone 4 is rightfully considered one of the most successful Apple smartphones. Having received a glass case with a base in the form of a steel frame, it became a real breakthrough for its time. The gadgets that were relevant for that time could not offer anything of the kind. Moreover, the device was interesting with a good camera, as well as an IPS-screen, which received the Retina mark. Its density exceeded 300 PPI, and the human eye, it seems, could no longer distinguish individual points on it. However, the device had a clear problem with human hands. With the “wrong” grip due to the incorrect location of the antennas, he lost the signal of the cellular network. To solve the problem, Apple offered to buy branded bumper covers. The problem was sad, but the solution was ridiculous.
iPhone 5 (2012) 😭
Black peeled off in the first months after purchase and earlier

In the early 2010s, smartphones evolved differently than they do now. Then each next generation was “faster-higher-stronger”, so I wanted to get it for personal use without fail. However, with the iPhone 4s in hand, I personally had no desire to buy an iPhone 5. Then I perceived only black devices, and it was with them that Apple had a problem. Smartphones in this color were chipped in the first months after purchase or even before it. Apparently, it was all the fault of the incorrect coating method. It is good that in the future Apple did not have such problems – let the “gray space” systematically be erased from any surfaces until now.

iPhone 6 Plus (2014) 😢
Easy enough to bend – especially for tech bloggers

In the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple began using a 7000 series aluminum alloy that is harder to bend with your bare hands. It’s all to blame for the massive insanity of tech bloggers a year before the release of this gadget. The iPhone 6 (and especially the iPhone 6 Plus) was not so difficult to bend, and many fans of inexpensive hype were actively involved in this. In practice, the smartphone was usually bent when placed in the back pocket of jeans and sat on it. In other scenarios, its body performed quite well, but the device still wrote itself down in history as a very failure.
Magic Mouse 2 (2015) 🤪
The mouse cannot be charged and used at the same time

The current generation of Apple’s proprietary manipulator can hardly be called a truly disastrous on all fronts. The mouse is comfortable, as it should be, it supports gestures for controlling macOS and has a long battery life. However, it has a very funny drawback – the charging process. The port for it is located at the bottom of the mouse, so the gadget cannot be used while the battery is being filled with energy. A rather strange decision that makes you take a break from your professional activity. Not that long, but still. And the manipulator itself, which lies on its side, looks strange. In general, the failure is not sad, but funny.
Apple Generation 1st Generation (2015) (
The stylus charges very strangely through the Lightning port

In 2015, the manufacturer had another extraordinary incident related to the charging process. It concerns the 1st generation Apple Pencil, which must be shoved into the iPad’s Lightning port for initial pairing and energizing. Yes, this process looks very strange if you try to speak as softly as possible. Of course, the first branded stylus can also be charged using the Lightning cable. However, this requires a special adapter, which is not always with you. In general, one more not the most critical moment. I myself smile every time when I charge my stylus from the tablet.
Butterfly keyboard (2015) 😢
As a result, it turned out to be very convenient, but extremely unreliable.

The butterfly mechanism that Apple has developed for laptop keyboards has a twofold sensation. Among the positives is the extremely small thickness of the structure, which makes it possible to achieve the minimum dimensions of the device. I also particularly like the short key travel, which makes it possible to type as quickly as possible. In the end, it’s great that the buttons in this case are pressed equally well regardless of where the finger is. It’s a pity, the payback for the convenience of the mechanism, which began to be installed in the MacBook since 2015, turned out to be practicality. The keys are regularly filled with dirt, and then seize. Apple could not overcome the problem, so this development was eventually abandoned.
MacBook Pro 13″ (2016) 😭
Many of them completely broke screens due to a short train.

Another failure of Apple, which I felt on my own experience. The 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pros had an important design issue. We are talking about the screen cable, which turned out to be too short in laptops of these particular years. With each wide opening of the screen lid, this structural element is systematically stretched and eventually torn. It is almost impossible to solder such a loop, so more expensive repairs have to be made. Unofficially, you can only change the matrix, officially – the entire top cover. The cost of this process reaches almost a third of the price of the gadget itself. Apple even acknowledged a problem for devices in 2016, but eventually abandoned 2017. In 2018, this lack was no longer there, which suggests that the company knew about it.
Touch Bar (2016) 🤪
Positioned as a replacement for F1-12, but never became it

I remember very well how at the presentation of the new MacBook Pro in 2016, Apple tried to prove to the public that it came up with a really convenient alternative for a number of function keys. It was supposed to be a touch strip called the Touch Bar, on which buttons for useful actions were displayed in a contextual way – according to the situation. In practice, it turned out that tactilely indistinguishable controls did not really fit in with a mechanical keyboard, but Apple still fought hard for this decision until 2021. This year, she launched the new MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar, which confirmed the inferiority of the solution. Failure? Well, something similar.
AirPower (2019) 🤪
It did not go on sale, it is not known why

The apogee of Apple’s failures I myself consider the universal charger named AirPower, which never went on sale. Apple introduced this solution in 2017, and in 2019 decided to abandon it. The company referred to the fact that it could not achieve a really high level of usability with this piece. Interestingly, there are plenty of wireless chargers on the market that can charge multiple gadgets at once, and they work great. Therefore, the manufacturer’s statement can be considered rather strange. However, this failure still belongs to the category of funny, not sad. Better not to release something than to put a deliberately inoperative gadget on store shelves.
