The success of “I’m Still Here ” in Brazilian cinemas and Hollywood awards has boosted sales of the book, written by Marcelo Rubens Paiva which gave rise to the film.
According to Neotrust Confi, a company specializing in online retail, the title registered a 9.2-fold increase in the daily average sales in e-commerce after January 6th one day after Fernanda Torres won the Golden Globe for Walter Salles’ film.
According to the company, book sales in the state of São Paulo grew by 49.4% date, when compared to the average recorded in 2024.
Last week, the production also won the award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, in the International Film category.
For the jurors, the film was chosen for “transmitting the horror of the dictatorship from the intimate perspective of a mother who defends not only her family of five, but her dignity. Evoking the gravity of violence without resorting to melodrama, director Walter Salles captures a critical moment in history with scrupulous and convincing detail.”
“I’m Still Here” is an adaptation of the book of the same name written by Marcelo Rubens Paiva. The story takes place in the 1970s, during the most intense period of the military dictatorship in Brazil, and follows the trajectory of the Paiva family, made up of Rubens (played by Selton Mello), Eunice (played by Fernanda Torres) and their children.
The family’s life is completely transformed when, on one fateful day, Rubens Paiva is taken by undercover soldiers and disappears without leaving a trace .
The cast also features Valentina Herszage (“She for Her”), Maeve Jinkings (“Toll”), Antonio Saboia (“Private Desert”), Olivia Torres (“Continent”), Humberto Carrão (“Aquarius”), Dan Stulbach (“Women in Love”), Charles Fricks (“Land and Passion”), Caio Horowicz (“Word of Mouth”), Daniel Dantas (“Pega Pega) and more.
