‘I’m stronger than ever’, says Zoë Kravitz about preparing for Catwoman

The actress Zoë Kravitzwho plays Selina Kyle, the Catwoman, in the new “Batman” (2022), revealed that he had to train about three hours a day while shooting the feature film.

According to the actress, who is on the cover of the March issue of the American magazine “Elle”, the intense exercise routine took place after working eight hours on set. The feature film by Matt Reeves brings Robert Pattinson in the role of the superhero and is scheduled to premiere on March 3 in Brazil.

“Obviously you want to look good in Catwoman’s jumpsuit, but I also wanted it to be realistic that I was capable of doing anything in that movie. So I had to be strong. I was stronger than ever. It was a good feeling to see what I was capable of. I felt confident,” Kravitz said.

The 33-year-old actress also revealed the backstory of her audition for the role. According to her, upon receiving the call from her agent in 2019, she told herself to hold back the excitement. “One thing I had to learn from an early age was that when you get attached, it’s hard, and most of the time you don’t get the part.”

Kravitz stated that, in the audition, he needed to present the director with a scene where he would enter wearing a motorcycle helmet and would need to take it off at the beginning of the performance. The actress projected a pessimistic scenario for the occasion. “I thought ‘This is how I’m not going to get the part.’ I won’t make it because the helmet will get stuck on my head and I won’t look cool. I will get the lines right, but I will ruin the helmet moment,” she declared.

That’s not what happened. Upon informing Zoë that she had gotten the part, Matt Reeves said, “You are her.” The director praised the actress’ performance during filming. “There wasn’t a moment when she was apprehensive or insecure. She’s incredibly smart, funny, honest, unassuming, and had great ideas about character development,” Reeves said.

Zoë Kravitz follows a lineage of strong Catwoman performers, comprising Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway. “The fan club is barbaric. When the movie was announced, I got more calls than on any birthday,” she stated.

Daughter of singer Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, Zoë Kravitz also spoke about the feeling of embarrassment she had in her twenties when it came to her family.

“People always assumed that if I got a job it was because of my last name. Was hard. But I was very privileged. I got an agent easily. I’m not going to pretend it didn’t help me get into the market. But I needed to remind myself that I worked hard, and that as a child I performed at my grandparents’ house. This had nothing to do with who my family was. It was because I loved doing it.”

Today, Zoë talks bluntly about her parents. “I am proud of where I came from. Today it’s nice to be in a place where I feel like, when people ask me about my parents, I’m not like, ‘Let’s not talk about this.’ I say, ‘They are wonderful. I am grateful to be their daughter.’”
