In Rio de Janeiro, there was intense activity on the beaches on the day that the temperature reached 50.5 degrees. The highest temperature recorded in the city throughout the day was 42.5 degrees, at the Irajá meteorological station – the highest of the year.
With no beaches in the capital of São Paulo, the solution for São Paulo residents was to resort to public parks and swimming pools. At Sesc Belenzinho, in the east zone, visitors had to queue up to wait for the pools to open.
The city of São Paulo also recorded the hottest afternoon of the year today, with an average maximum temperature of 36.9 degrees. The highest absolute maximum temperature, that is, the one that is measured in just one point, also reached a record this Sunday: around 4 pm, the thermometers in the region of the Vila Mariana subprefecture registered 38.5 degrees.
