Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro criticized American diplomat Marco Rubio, labeling him as a “asshole” during a public event on Thursday (27), in response to Rubio’s warning about possible repercussions if Venezuela attacked Guyana.
Maduro highlighted the historical importance of Venezuela, proclaiming it as the Land of Libertadores. His comments occurred amid a long territorial dispute with Guyana about the region rich in oil resources, Essequibo.
“Marco Rubio’s idiot is out there threatening the Venezuela da Guyana. Imbacil, no one threatens Venezuela because this is the Libertadores’ homeland, this is Bolivar’s homeland, imbecile. And they say this is a regime, a dictatorship. Marco Rubio has never seen a popular assembly, has never been to a neighborhood because they are part of Miami’s corrupt elite, very corrupt, Venezuela, ”said the Venezuelan leader.
Earlier this Thursday, Rubio, during his trip to the Caribbean, expressed support for Guyana against Venezuela’s claims, suggesting that the military force could be used if necessary.
The US Secretary of State warned of Venezuela that an attack on his neighbor Guyana would result in “a very bad day” for the South American nation.
The Essequibo region, which comprises two thirds of the territory of Guyana, remains a contentious and abundant area in oil resources.
