Immunefi has warned of the spread via Telegram of the Echelon virus to compromise cryptocurrency wallets

Immunefi reports that hackers have begun to widely use the Echelon spyware, also distributed via Telegram, to hack cryptocurrency wallets.

Blockchain security company Immunefi
reported on Twitter about the spread of Echelon malware, which aims to collect data on users’ cryptocurrency wallets. A virus program has many possibilities, from compromising data to violating the privacy of a user’s computer or mobile device.

Malware poses a threat to Telegram users who use the app’s auto-download feature. After downloading the file, the malware is automatically downloaded to the device without the user’s knowledge. Then it independently launches and transfers to the attacker all information about the operation of the victim’s device, including mnemonic phrases, the private key from the wallet with cryptocurrencies or the password from the user’s banking application. The malware file can be seen by the name “Smokes night”.

Experts warn that users should be extremely careful when eliminating malware to avoid damaging system files. In order to avoid infecting the device, the agency recommends that users disable the automatic upload function in Telegram.

Recently, cybersecurity firm ReasonLabs reported on hidden Monero mining malware in pirated copies of the latest Spider-Man movie. At the beginning of the month, cybersecurity company Red Canary announced the emergence of new Cryptbot malware threatening cryptocurrency wallet owners. Through the KMSPico program, which is used to activate all the functions of unlicensed Microsoft Windows and Office programs, the virus infects the devices of its victims and collects confidential user data to access cryptocurrency wallets.
