Immunosuppressed will receive a fourth dose against Covid-19, says Ministry of Health

Immunosuppressed people will receive a fourth dose of vaccine against Covid-19 in Brazil. The information was disclosed in a technical note from the Ministry of Health on Monday (20).

All individuals over 18 years of age in these conditions may receive a booster dose of the vaccine from four months after the last dose of the vaccine schedule (two doses + additional dose), regardless of the immunizing agent applied.

According to the Ministry of Health, the vaccine from Pfizer, with a messenger RNA platform, should be used preferably. Alternatively, viral vector vaccine from Janssen or AstraZeneca can be applied.

The National Plan for the Operationalization of Vaccination against Covid-19 (PNO) considers as immunosuppressed people with severe primary immunodeficiency, undergoing chemotherapy for cancer or transplanted (solid organ or stem cell), who use immunosuppressive drugs, in addition to people living with HIV/AIDS.
