Impact of Milton Ribeiro’s arrest on the government is the subject of the CNN Debate

In a debate held by CNN this Wednesday (22), the deputies Amaral Tabata (PSB-SP) and Ricardo Barros (PP-PR) discussed the possible political consequences of the arrest of the former Minister of Education Milton Ribeiro suspected of practicing influence peddling and corruption for the release of public funds from the National Education Development Fund (FNDE).

On Visão CNN, parliamentarians commented on the president’s statement Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on the arrest of Ribeiro. “I’m sorry. The press will say it’s linked to me, so be it. If something is wrong, he will respond. If he is innocent, no problem ”, declared the Chief Executive in an interview with Itatiaia radio.

For Tabata Amaral, the president will find it difficult to get rid of the case. “It is important to mention that one of the most important aspects of this investigation is precisely an audio by former minister Milton Ribeiro in which he said that he released funds by indication of two pastors at the request of Bolsonaro. That is, the main element makes it clear that the minister did what he did at the request of the President of the Republic ”, quoted the deputy.

Ricardo Barros, on the other hand, recalled that many people are exonerated throughout the process and stressed that the fight against corruption is the “DNA” of the Bolsonaro government.

“The minister is a very qualified person. As I posted on my social media, many of those arrested are exonerated. I hope that’s the case with Reverend Milton. He is under investigation, it is evident that there are indications that led to the arrest request, but I hope that in the end he can be exonerated. This just happened to me at the Covid CPI”, pointed out the government leader in the Chamber of Deputies .

From the final report of the Covid-19 CPI the senators raised suspicions that the deputy had committed the crime of criminal organization alongside others investigated in the vaccine contracting process covaxin the most expensive to have a deal signed with the Ministry of Health to be used in the fight against the pandemic.

The investigation was shelved by the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF ) Rose Weber who claimed that minimal evidence was not proven to assert that Barros had acted for the benefit of private claims.
