The impasse around the PEC of Precatório in Congress has blocked the purchase of lots of Covid-19 vaccines for 2022. With less than two months to go before the end of the year, the Ministry of Health has not signed a contract for the acquisition of 100 million doses of Pfizer for next year.
According to members of the Ministry of Health heard by the CNN, the new purchases have not yet been closed due to lack of budget forecast, and the contracts are stopped by determination of the Ministry of Economy, by Paulo Guedes, awaiting the approval of the PEC dos Precatórios.
In his opinion, the proposal’s rapporteur, Deputy Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), foresees the allocation of R$ 15 billion for expenses related to vaccination against Covid-19. The idea is that this amount is still open in the 2021 Budget.
Although Health technicians are thinking about a plan B, the expectation in the portfolio is that the Proposal for Amendment to the Constitution will advance in Congress. The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), has been working to get the text voted on this Wednesday (3).
