Personalities mourn the death of Gal Costa icon of Brazilian popular music (MPB), this Wednesday (9).
In an interview with CNN singer-songwriter toquinho expressed regret at the artist’s death.
“We played a lot, we sang a lot, a friendship of more than 50 years. She is an impeccable artist, with a crystal clear voice, incredible tuning, a sweetness and emotion in her voice. An impressive loss. Brazilian music is really mourning today because Gal was a great artist,” she said.
The singer says that he made numerous partnerships with Gal on stage and that the last meeting with the artist took place at an airport about a year and a half ago.
“The last contact I had with Gal was at an airport, we met and talked, always in a sweet way. We did several performances together, I had no idea that she was experiencing any health problems. I still don’t know the origin of her death, but it was a surprise that took everyone by surprise,” she said.
Gal Costa’s cause of death was not reported. According to the press release, the singer had been recovering in the last three weeks from a nasal surgical procedure.
She would perform at the Primavera Sound festival in São Paulo last weekend. Participation was canceled on the eve of the event. His last participation in festivals was at the Coalla Festival, in September this year in São Paulo.
