Implementation will be gradual, but capitals should have 5G in 2022, says expert

The 5G auction, which will resume this Friday (5), raised nearly R$7 billion in grants in the 24 lots sold last Thursday. For the president of the consulting company Teleco, Eduardo Tude, the result was positive.

In an interview with CNN Rádio, he stated that large telephone operators were expected to buy frequencies, but highlighted that there have been changes: “The good news is that we had new players, with the intention of offering direct service to the consumer or offering an infrastructure so that other regional providers use it.”

Tude points out that the implementation of the technology will be “a gradual process”, which will take “about 5 years”: “We will start to feel in the next year, the main frequency band has limited time to be put into service because it is necessary to remove the satellite dishes from the Aberta TV and take them to another band.”

“In June, the expectation is that capitals will already have the 5G service”, he added.

The frequencies won had another important point, for the specialist: the counterparts. “It was a great advance in the auction, 90% of the money raised will already be used to meet commitments. With this, it ensures that the money has an application to expand the telecommunications service in Brazil, whether taking 4G on roads and remote villages or on the issue of internet in schools.”
