The security forces of the Iraq killed a key member of the Islamic State group in Syria, responsible for carrying out attacks against Iraqi government forces, the country’s National Security Service reported this Tuesday (11).
Abu Zainab, a citizen of Iraq, was killed in the Syrian city of Raqqa “during the past few days” in cooperation with US-led coalition forces, the service said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the U.S.-led anti-Islamic State coalition did not respond to a request for comment.
The group is working with Iraqi security forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces against the remnants of the Islamic State group.
In Iraq, the armed group was defeated in 2017, but its fighters still carry out regular attacks on the Iraqi police, army and state paramilitary units.
