Christ the Redeemer, a monument located in Rio de Janeiro, was struck by lightning last Friday night (10). Photographer Fernando Braga captured the moment and shared the images on his social networks. He called the situation a “divine thunderbolt”.
The photos show the moment when the statue’s head is struck by lightning.
In the post, Braga stated that he had already made several attempts to catch lightning falling on Christ the Redeemer, but that, until then, he had never succeeded. “Many, many unsuccessful attempts to catch the lightning falling on Christ. Many rains and days passed. I got close a few times, but I had never managed to get to Cristo. And right there that I love to photograph! I already have a very special photo for me which was the Blessed Moon. Now it’s Divine Lightning!” he wrote.
In the comments, netizens highlighted how impressive the images are and praised the photographer.
“Damn! It even gives a chill to see this lightning falling on Christ and him there, in the same sublime, powerful and peaceful way with lightning falling on him, as if nothing had happened!”, said a follower.
“I already lack adjectives to describe the images I see on this page, so I’ll be repeating myself: what a spectacular photo!”, said another.
