The U.S. State Department’s flagship national security bounty program offered a reward of up to $10 million for information on Abu Mohammed al-Golani in 2017.
Abu Mohammed al-Golani, also known as Muhammad al-Jawlani, was the commander of the Al Qaeda (AQS) franchise in the Syrian civil war.
Today, he is the best-known of Syria’s triumphant insurgents, having gradually risen to prominence since cutting ties with al Qaeda in 2016.
Golani represents the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group, formerly known as the Nusra Front, which took Damascus this Sunday (8).
The U.S. State Department’s flagship national security bounty program is still offering the bounty.
