The survey “Volunteering in Brazil 2021”, carried out by the Institute for the Development of Social Investment (IDIS) and DataFolha, pointed out that 57 million people were active volunteers in the country in 2021.
In an interview with CNN this Wednesday (27), the coordinator of the study, Silvia Nacache, evaluated the indices as positive.
“We come with good news because it is a historical series, which began in 2001, where 18% of the population said they had done or were doing volunteer work. In 2011, this number jumped to 25% and, in 2021, it reached 56% of the adult population, over 16 years old, who say they do or have done some voluntary activity,” he said.
The researcher highlights other findings of the study, such as the value of volunteering, with 18 hours per month, in addition to care for children and adolescents, with growth in care for families, communities and homeless people.
Silvia also reported that there was a significant increase in the practice during the pandemic. “A support network was formed, with financial, material and philanthropic resources, with donation of time, 47% of volunteers started to practice more during the pandemic”, he said.
“Volunteering has reinvented itself during the pandemic, with 21% of people starting to do online activities, mainly in the areas of education and psychological support”, he adds.
The specialist also stated that the profile of the volunteer in Brazil is balanced in terms of gender, with average schooling, and a degree of satisfaction with an average grade of 9.1, “This gives us the impression that there is a desire to continue with the voluntary activity”.
