In 2021, the number of smartphones, tablets and PCs in the world will reach 6.2 billion

In recent years, the demand for computers and mobile devices has grown several times. Now many users have at their disposal a smartphone, a tablet, and a laptop. And thanks to sales growth, the number of these devices will reach record levels in 2021. Analysts of the research firm Gartner say about this in their report.

According to Gartner analysts, in 2021 the number of desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones worldwide will reach 6.2 billion units, and by 2022 this figure will grow by 3.2% to 6.4 billion. The number of laptops and tablets in 2021 will grow by 8.8% and 11.7%, respectively, compared to last year, the number of smartphones for the year will increase by 1% after last year’s decline by 2.6%. But the demand for desktop computers, according to analysts, will fall. If in 2020 there were 522 million desktop PCs in the world, then by 2022 their number will decrease to 470 million.

Despite declining interest in desktop computers, analysts say global PC shipments, including laptops, were up 32% in the first quarter of 2021 over the same period last year. In the first three months of this year, manufacturers shipped a total of 69.9 million PCs. Five companies remain the leaders in this market: Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple, Acer and ASUS.
