In 2022 everything is judged for the EastMed pipeline

The issue of the Eastern Mediterranean pipeline is being finalized, a project that has been at the center of discussions at many levels from the beginning.

From the last tripartite (Israel, Cyprus, Greece) in Jerusalem, important data emerge in relation to the course of EastMed and its fate and especially that by the end of 2022 the final decisions will be taken.

What emerges from the recent discussion between President Anastasiadis and the Prime Ministers Naftali Bennett of Israel and Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece, in relation to the pipeline is:

– Within 2022, the studies of technical feasibility and economic viability will have been completed.

– At the end of 2022, the final decisions for the pipeline will be made based on the results.

– If the indications are positive, then the beginning of 2023 the construction works will start, and the pipeline is expected to be put into operation at the end of 2025.

– In a different case, ie if it is judged that it can not be implemented, then other solutions will be sought.

In terms of energy, the countries of the regions are pleased to note France’s interest in becoming a full member of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum. A development that means a lot, both for the EMGF and for the countries of the region. Equally important is the interest of the United States, the European Union and the World Bank in being present at the EMGF as observers.

An important development, which directly concerns Cyprus, is the proposal of Jordan to establish a coordination center for dealing with natural disasters, based in Cyprus, from where aircraft will be able to travel to the countries of the region.
