Between January 1st and the first week of May this year, the Federal Police (PF) arrested 106 people for crimes related to the storage and sharing of files involving child and adolescent sexual abuse.
The withdrawal of the PF at the request of the CNN shows that arrests occurred in all states of Brazil and most of them were carried out in flagrante delicto. That’s because, at the time of the police actions, investigators found material and gave the suspects a voice of arrest.
The report found that the PF carried out, until this week in June, 70 operations to combat the storage and sharing of child and youth abuse, which is an average of three police actions per week.
Just last Friday (30) there were three operations on the streets, one in Goiás, one in Tocantins and another in Ceará.
In Tocantins, the PF team carried out a search and seizure warrant in the city of Tocantinópolis, at the home of a suspect of storing images with criminal content on his cell phone.
In Ceará, the operation “Nothing released” was launched. A search and seizure warrant was served in Fortaleza. PF investigations pointed to indications that a suspect participated in a group in a messaging application called “Tudo Liberado”, which had as its main function the exchange of sexual content. The investigated person preferably shared images containing child and adolescent pornography, according to the PF.
In Goiás, another search and seizure warrant was served in Goiânia. This action is part of the investigation initiated in 2022, which was based on reports generated by the NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) and data provided by providers Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Twitter, Google and Microsoft to the PF, since in the United States Together, these companies are required by law to report any child sexual exploitation images they detect in their systems.
These operations are carried out based on investigations by the Police Stations for the Repression of Cyber Crimes (DRCC). This year, after restructuring the General Directorate, every state in Brazil now has a DRCC. At the PF headquarters in Brasília, the Directorate for Combating Cyber Crimes (DCiber) was created.
In March, in an interview with CNN the director of DCiber, delegate Otávio Margonari Russo, and the general coordinator for combating cybercrime, Cassiana Saad de Carvalho, explained that there are ongoing projects within the Federal Police to create new technologies to combat child sexual crimes and bank fraud .
Before becoming a board, under the new management of the PF, it was a division and did not have all the structure and contribution it has now. “This is a message that this administration has as a priority, in fact, the fight against this type of crime”, said Russo.
Currently, under the Penal Code, the publication of pornographic content on the internet is punishable by up to 8 years of imprisonment, but there is a project in the Federal Senate that would toughen the sentences, but still no progress.
