In 2024, Roraima will record the highest number of fires in the historical series, says Inpe

The state of Roraima reached a historic record of fire outbreaks according to data from the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe).

Until last Sunday (13), 4,787 outbreaks were registered this year, surpassing the previous record of 4,784, recorded in 2019.

  • 2016: 3,870 outbreaks
  • 2013: 2,519 outbreaks

The highest monthly records occurred at the beginning of 2024, when only the month of February were recorded 2,057 outbreaks, almost half of the annual total.

From May to October, the fires decreased, totaling 178 outbreaks. In addition to Roraima, states such as São Paulo and Amazonas also broke their records for fire outbreaks in one year this year.

In total, the Brazil already has 439,031 fires an increase of 78% compared to last year, with the North region being the most affected.
