In 36% the pandemic launched elastic work

The pandemic launched flexible employment contracts, especially in its first year, ie in 2020. According to the employment data of e-EFKA, in December 2020 (s.s. these are the last available data), part-time contracts rose in 36% of all private sector contracts, while a year ago, they had risen to 29%.

Consequently, the “specific weight” of tire employment in the Greek economy increased by 7 points, more specifically, in December 2020, tire employment amounted to 799,258 out of a total of 2,205,358 private sector employees, while in December 2019, they were to 675,195 out of a total of 2,305,235 employees, thus increasing by 200,136 or 12.2%.

During the same period, the number of full-time employees decreased. Specifically, in December 2020 they amounted to 1,431,891 compared to 1,632,027 in December 2019. Therefore they decreased by 124,063 or 15.5% between December 2019 – December 2020.

Overall, there was obviously a decrease in employment by 99,877 people or 4.3%.

At the same time as the number of employed people increased, the average salary of both this category and the full-time employees increased.

Specifically, the average salary of full-time employees amounted to 1,263 euros (gross) in December 2020 compared to 1,195 euros in December 2019. In other words, it increased by 5.3%.

The increase in the average wage of the part-time employees was even greater. It amounted to 15.5%, as from an average salary of 417 euros in December 2019 we reached an average salary of 492 euros in December 2020.

Overall, the average wage between December 2019-December 2020 increased by 3%, reaching 998 euros in December 2020 compared to 968 euros before the pandemic.
