In a ceremony with indigenous friends, Bruno Pereira’s body is cremated in Pernambuco

The body of indigenist Bruno Pereira, 41, killed in Amazonas, was cremated this Friday afternoon (24) at Morada da Paz Cemetery and Crematorium, in Pernambuco.

The wake began in the morning, in the Central Wake Room. The cremation ceremony was closed, reserved for family and friends, and took place around 3:11 pm today. The information was confirmed by the cameraman on site at CNN .

In a ceremony of much emotion and tribute, indigenous friends of Bruno were moved during the wake.

The coffin was covered with flags from Pernambuco, Sport and a shirt from the Union of Indigenous Peoples of Vale do Javari (Univaja).

The body of the indigenist arrived in the capital of Pernambuco on Thursday night (23), transported by a Federal Police plane.

Univaja member Eliesio Marubo cried next to the coffin paying his last respects to his friend.

Bruno was a career servant of the National Indian Foundation (Funai), and recognized as a defender of indigenous causes.

He and British journalist Dom Phillips had been missing since June 5, in Vale do Javari (AM).

After the case gained repercussion, several public figures, environmentalists, activists, artists and opposition politicians went public to demand urgent measures for the search for the duo.

One of the main suspects in the disappearance, Amarildo Oliveira da Costa, known as Pelado, confessed to having participated in the murder of the duo more than a week later.

He and his brother, Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, 41, known as “Dos Santos”, are arrested on suspicion of having participated in the crime.

Jeferson da Silva Lima, known as “Pelado da Dinha”, was arrested on suspicion of having participated in the concealment of the corpses. Another five people were identified as involved in the concealment of the bodies of Bruno and Dom.
