In an interview with CNN , the owner of the house, Samuel Bonfim, said that the collapse happened last Tuesday (24th) and that he was at home by coincidence. When the wall fell, he was in the backyard with his daughter, but neither of them were hurt.

According to Samuel, he has lived with his family in the residence for three years and only after he already lived in the condominium did other neighbors arrive and build the other houses.

He stated that the infiltration problems began when his neighbor started work on the house, which was built at the back of his.

Samuel said that he got to talk to the neighbor during the works and that he convinced him to call an expert to evaluate, but the report would not have pointed out any problems in the construction.

His estimate is that the cost of repairing the wall, the leisure area, the swimming pool and the floor could reach R$800,000.

Samuel claims that he was warned by engineers from the Regional Council of Engineering and Architecture (Crea) that there is still a risk of landslides in the backyard of the house and that, out of fear, he preferred to leave the residence and that he intends to call the neighbor, who was not identified, and the condominium in Justice.

The owner of the house also said that he also asked the condominium for help, but that he did not receive any support, neither before nor after the collapse. He also reports that the condominium is home to several famous personalities and that their neighbors also suffer from infiltrations.

The condominium is Itahyê Residencial, located in the Alphaville neighborhood, in the municipality of Santana de Parnaíba, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.

The high-end development was launched in 2008, has more than 530,000 m² of area, 415 houses from 420 m² and services such as sports courts, swimming pool, ballrooms and games and the like.

Crea investigates the technical responsible for the work

Inspectors from the Regional Council of Engineering and Architecture (Crea) went to the site with agents from the Civil Defense and Fire Department after receiving a complaint about the collapse of the wall.

“After the inspection on 01/25, the Council’s inspection issued a notification so that the condominium and the owner of the neighboring property, present the documentation referring to the projects for the execution of the work”, informed Crea in a note.

The Council also requested the names of the professionals involved and the projects for the two houses, such as the foundation, staking, drainage and execution of the work phases.

The head of Crea’s Inspection Management Unit (UGI), Felipe Xavier, said that the wall gave way due to the pressure of rainwater and that it will be investigated “whether there was a technical manager registered with Crea-SP in carrying out this work”.

THE CNN tried to contact the administration of the Residencial Itahyê condominium to comment on the case and awaits response.
