In a meeting with the minister, unions ask for government support in the midst of the crisis in Americanas

Union centrals involved in the Lojas Americanas crisis met with the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, this Monday (30th), in São Paulo. The objective of the meeting was to find solutions to the problem and guarantee the maintenance of jobs.

The meeting, which took place behind closed doors, at the Metallurgical Workers Union of São Paulo, in the central region of São Paulo, lasted about 40 minutes.

Representatives of union centrals asked for support from the federal government in the face of the crisis that plagues the Americanas retailer.

Minister Luiz Marinho said that he came to São Paulo in response to this request from the workers: “I am responding to a call to talk to the union centrals. A company like Americanas, present throughout the national territory, is concerned about being in this situation. It is clear that the matter is complex. I came more to listen to think about what to do”.

Still according to the minister, it is important to be concerned about the financial system and resolve disputes with major creditors, but workers cannot be forgotten. “You have to think not only about the financial system. The main creditor is the labor force. Preserving the company means protecting thousands of families”.

Luiz Marinho, after the meeting, returned to Brasília and promised to find a better way to resolve this scenario.

“They want me to call the company and we’ll do it. Let’s see if we can help the workers. Find a way to protect professionals.
If the company closes, imagine the impact it will have on the entire production chain”, concluded the minister.
