This Friday (9), the singer Avril Lavigne will end her visit to Brazil with her first performance at the Rock in Rio.
20 years ago, the Canadian appeared in the music world as a teenager. With a rebellious style, baggy clothes, skateboard on her feet and a tie around her neck, the young woman rocked a generation with songs that to this day are some of the most requested in her shows.
This is the fourth time that the singer arrives in Brazil. On her first visit here, in 2005, she completed her Bonez Tour – the last concert of the tour took place in September in São Paulo and had an audience of more than 35 thousand people – the biggest audience of his career.
The second time was in 2011 with the The Black Star Tour. With five shows, Avril performed twice in São Paulo, once in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and Belo Horizonte. The same happened with the The Avril LavigneTour in 2014.
Now with your tour Love Sux the same name as her latest album, she promises to pack fans with new songs and songs that bring nostalgia.
The first show since his return to the country, after eight years away, took place at Espaço Unimed, in São Paulo, this Wednesday (7), with all tickets sold.
Celebrating her 20-year career to around 8,000 people, Avril sang hits like “complicated ”, “Sk8er ox ”, “I’m with you ”, “Losing Grip ”, from their first album, “let go ”, as well as hits like “girlfriend ” – whose music video was the first to reach 100 million views on YouTube –, and “What The Hell ”.
She also sang “bite me “, “Love it when you hate me ” and “Avalanche “, from their new album.
Inspiration for new pop rock era
More reserved and with more intimate songs, Avril Lavigne now talks not only about breakups, but also about her struggle for life.
In 2014, she revealed the diagnosis of Lyme disease – caused by a bacterium, Borrelia burgdorferi, transmitted by ticks of the genus Ixodes -, which made her take a break from her career for more than six years.
Young people of the new era of pop music like Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo said they were inspired by Avril, as well as Hayley Williams from the rock band Paramore.
In her Podcast, Hayley stated, “If it weren’t for Avril’s career, I doubt record companies would give Paramore any chance. She really helped make an opening for us.”
millennial generation
Teens who grew up in the 2000s have reason to celebrate this Friday. In addition to Avril’s performance, called the “pop princess”, the audience at Rock in Rio 2022 you can see the bands Green Day and Fall Out Boys up close.
Avril Lavigne currently has over 21 million Twitter followers, 16.6 million monthly listeners on the Spotify streaming platform and seven albums released.
And despite reaching all ages, most of her fans are between 20 and 30 years old. In a mood of nostalgia, what draws attention is that the two most listened to songs on streaming are from his first album, “Let Go”, released 20 years ago, in 2002.
“Complicated”, their first single, has more than 565 million players and “Sk8er boi” more than 390 million. Fans are already flocking to social media.
