This Sunday (22), a special edition of the program “Caminhos com Abilio Diniz” will air on CNN Brasil. In this episode, Abilio Diniz interviewed Alexandre Bompard, global CEO of Carrefour, at the 1st Esfera Internacional Forum, held by Esfera Brasil, directly from Paris, France.
In a conversation recorded in French, in an atmosphere of old acquaintances, Abilio highlighted the characteristics of Bompard, with whom he has worked for six years: a versatile man, a family man, a winner, but also a great sportsman.
At 51 years old, Bompard took on the role of global CEO of Carrefour after undergoing a rigorous selection process.
Taking stock of the management, Abilio highlighted that, upon his arrival, Bompard found the company facing some market difficulties and that the businessman then did an excellent job.
For Bompard, “the biggest challenge was finding a company that had a lot of bureaucracy in its administration”. One of the immediate solutions was to rediscover a direction for the company, investing in digital expansion and understanding customer needs.
In the conversation, Abilio Diniz and Alexandre Bompard discussed the “atacarejo” format, initially created to serve companies and resellers, but which started to gain strength with the general consumer, due to the offer of lower prices than those suggested by supermarkets and hypermarkets. .
“The model is interesting for those who have little purchasing power and we decided to launch Atacadão in France. It will maintain the business’s own identity because it has Brazil’s DNA and it is interesting for all social classes as it helps with purchasing power.”
Abilio highlighted that the model, important for the end consumer, has faced resistance from politicians and local authorities. According to Bompard, “there is a lot of work to explain the business model with local mayors and councilors to put an end to the prejudice that has arisen around it. When the first store opens, we will see whether or not the business will be accepted.”
