China criticized this Sunday (22) the new military aid from the United States to Taiwan, saying that the US$571 million package seriously violates the “one China principle” and the provisions of joint communiqués between the two countries.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson warned that the country would take “all necessary measures” to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It then called Taiwan “a red line that must not be crossed” in China-US relations, according to a statement released by the ministry.
Beijing considers Taiwan its own territory, a claim the government in Taipei rejects.
The Chinese government also claimed that the US aid package distorts its defense policy and “grossly interferes” in its internal affairs.
