The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), stated, this Monday (23), that those responsible for setting fire to at least 27 buses in the west zone of the city, in addition to being bandits, are stupid.
“When the guy is not only a criminal but also stupid. Militiamen in the West Zone burn public buses paid for with people’s money to protest the police operation. Those who pay are the working people. And to make matters worse, we had to interrupt transport services in the West Zone so that no more buses would burn,” said Paes.
“In other words, the only people affected: residents of the areas they claim to protect! These people need a very firm response from the police forces! As mayor, I appeal to the State Government and the Ministry of Justice to act to prevent events like this from happening again”, he continued.
In contact with CNN the Civil Police confirmed that the series of fires recorded is related to the death of militiaman Zinho’s nephew, Matheus da Silva Rezende, during a confrontation with police officers.
According to MobiRio, the Transoeste corridor lines are interrupted for public safety reasons.
Governor Cláudio Castro (PL) celebrated the operation after the episode with the buses and said “organized crime does not dare to challenge the power of the State”.
I want to congratulate our police officers from DGPE, Core and Draco, for arresting today, in Santa Cruz, Faustão or Teteu – who was the right-hand man and nephew of militiaman Zinho.
We won’t stop! Our actions to stifle organized crime have brought daily results.
