This Thursday (7), the Brazilian public will finally be able to watch the film “I’m Still Here ” in theaters. Based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva and directed by Walter Salles the film is one of the main releases in national cinema this year.
Starring Fernanda Torres and Selton Mello, “I’m Still Here” has gained international prominence at festivals and events around the world. The work was awarded the title of Best Screenplay at the Venice Festival and has already been shown in Toronto , New York and in Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival . Soon, it will also be presented at the AFI (American Film Institute).
This international journey is part of the film’s Oscar campaign and was also only possible thanks to the prestige of its director. Walter Salles is one of the most renowned Brazilian filmmakers in the world, with a long history in important cinema events outside the country.

Foreign Land (1996)
Co-directed by Daniela Thomas the film tells the story of Alex (Fernanda Torres), a young woman from São Paulo who lives in Lisbon, where she works as a waitress and faces a complicated relationship with Miguel (Alexandre Borges ), a musician with heroin addiction.
Meanwhile, in Brazil, Paco (Fernando Alves Pinto ) and his mother (Laura Cardoso ) fuel the desire to get to know the small Spanish town where their ancestors lived. In 2015, “Terra Estrangeira” entered the list made by Brazilian Association of Film Critics (Abraccine) of 100 best Brazilian films of all time .

Central Brazil (1998)
In “Central do Brasil”, we follow Dora (Fernanda Montenegro ), a bitter former teacher who supports herself by writing letters to illiterate people, who dictate messages to her for their families. However, she keeps the money and doesn’t even send the letters.
One day, after his mother’s death in a bus accident, Josué (Vinicius de Oliveira ), a nine-year-old boy, is left helpless. Although reluctant to take care of the boy, Dora decides to accompany him on a trip through the interior of the Northeast in search of Josué’s father, whom he has never met. The film won the Best Film award at the Berlin Film Festival, the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film and was nominated for an Oscar in the categories of Best International Film and Best Actress, for Fernanda Montenegro .

Pass Line (2008)
In the production, four brothers are raised by their mother (Sandra Corveloni ), who is a maid and, once again, is pregnant by an unknown father. In the absence of their father, they fight to make their dreams come true, and one of them sees football as the possibility of achieving a better life.
Screened at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, the feature film won the Best Actress award for Sandra Corveloni.

On the road (2012)
Based on the book of the same name by Jack Kerouac the story takes place in New York, in the late 40s. After the death of his father, Sal Paradise (Sam Riley ), a 24-year-old aspiring writer, meets Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund ), a 20-year-old ex-con with questionable morals, and his young, beautiful wife, Marylou (Kristen Stewart).
Dean is fascinated by Sal’s passion for writing, while Sal admires Dean’s boundless freedom. Together, they spend intense nights, full of drinks, dreaming of a different world and building a friendship that will lead them to hit the road.
