Ukraine will try to evacuate civilians through 10 “humanitarian corridors” on Monday, including cities near the capital Kiev and in the eastern region of Luhansk, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereschuk said.
“We will, once again, try to unblock the movement of the humanitarian convoy transporting food and medicine to the port city of Mariupol,” she said in a video speech.
The city, in the southeast of the country, is surrounded by Russian forces and already suffers from the lack of basic resources for the population. According to UK intelligence, Russia is trying to encircle the entire region to “smother” Ukrainian troops and take Mariupol.
The release of the new corridors takes place on the same day as the fourth meeting between negotiators from the two countries. The conversations, held by video, are scheduled for 10:30 am Kiev time (5:30 am Brasília time).
“A large number of issues require constant attention. On Monday, March 14, a new negotiating session will be held to summarize the preliminary results,” Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak posted on social media.
