Five men, aged between 18 and 54, were arrested in Manicoré (332 kilometers from Manaus), for environmental crimes and material crimes for illegal logging. The operation carried out by the Civil Police of Amazonas (PC-AM) that resulted in the arrests took place in a forested area of the municipality.
According to police chief Marcus Vieira, from the 72nd DIP, the investigation began when the police team received reports of illegal logging in the area. “When we arrived at the location, we came across individuals trying to extract the wood with two large tractors and two chainsaws. We then arrested the perpetrators and seized the vehicles,” explained the police chief.
In addition to the tractors and chainsaws, fuel and wood were also seized, both in the trunk and cut into stakes, the latter ready to be sold illegally.
The men who were arrested may be charged with environmental and material crimes for illegal logging and are at the disposal of the Justice Department.
