In an article, Lira says that the president of Petrobras is “illegitimate”

The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (Progressistas-AL), said that the presidency of Petrobras was “hijacked by an illegitimate president”. In an article published on the website of the newspaper “Folha de S.Paulo” this Sunday (19), the deputy said that José Mauro Ferreira Coelho does not represent the shareholders of the state-owned company and practices “corporate terrorism” against Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Last Friday (17), Petrobras announced a new adjustment in fuel prices. The president has defended the establishment of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry to investigate the management of the company.

According to Lira, it is necessary to “take off the mask” from Petrobras.

“Petrobras’ big issue today is that its double face was wide open: when it wants to gain privileged treatment from the Brazilian state, the company presents itself as a state rib. But as it profits billions and billions amid the biggest crisis in the history of the last century, it screams the chorus of “governance” and declares itself a savage capitalist. The time has come to take the mask off Petrobras.”

On Saturday (18), Bolsonaro said that Lira supports the establishment of the CPI. In his article, however, the president of the Chamber does not mention the possibility.

According to Lira, Petrobras must be “abandoned” to its fate, so that it stops being a “spoiled child”. The deputy says that today the company is a state-owned company only when it suits him.

“It’s not about intervening in Petrobras. It’s about leaving it to its own devices. Petrobras is a spoiled child, historically always treated with excessive complacency. Does she have the right to profit astronomically? So society has a duty to tax its profits more, to treat it with detachment. We can no longer live with the savage capitalist oil company with the same informality that we treated the state-owned company: what was once a matter of the State can now even be a ‘conflict of interests’, ‘influence trafficking’.”
