The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, posted on his official Instagram profile a video in which he countered the criticism made by his Brazilian colleague, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) that he is not interested in a peace agreement. O instant, captured on the social network, came up when answering a question from the correspondent Américo Martins, sent from CNN Brazil to Ukraine.
On the occasion, Zelensky received several South American journalists at a press conference. Martins asked the Ukrainian president what he thought of Lula’s most recent statements that neither he nor Putin wanted to negotiate a peace agreement because both have expectations of winning the war.
In the video, Zelensky responds with irony when Martins claims that Lula had criticized him? “Again? I am happy,” said the Ukrainian president.
In the post, Zelensky comments on Lula’s speeches: “I believe that the President of Brazil has his own opinions and it is not necessary that his opinions coincide with those of President Putin. Brazil is not an aggressor, but a peaceful country. Why do you need the narratives of the leader of a state that is no different from any colonizer, constantly lying, manipulating and misinforming people, killing our children and raping our women?”
Speeches by Lula and Amorim
Last week, at breakfast with foreign correspondents in Brasília, Lula said that “we have not heard from either Zelensky or (Russian President Vladimir) Putin the idea that we are going to stop (the war) and we are going to negotiate”. “For now, they’re both in that I’m going to win, I’m going to win, I’m going to win, I’m going to win phase, you know? Meanwhile, people are dying,” said Lula.
Amorim said, at the same event, that Russia’s security concerns cannot be left aside in discussions on any peace agreement. “You cannot leave out Russia’s security concerns, they are real,” Amorim said.
