Taiwan’s Transport Ministry said flights through its airspace had gradually resumed early Sunday morning as most notifications of Chinese military exercises near the island “are no longer in effect”.
The ministry said in a statement, however, that Taiwan would continue to direct flights and ships away from a planned Chinese military exercise on its east coast.
Taiwan Prime Minister Su Tseng-chang said on Sunday that China had used “arrogant” military actions to disrupt regional peace and stability.
Speaking to reporters in Taipei, Su also urged Beijing not to “flex its military muscles” and condemned “foreign enemies” he said were trying to undermine the morale of the island’s people through cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns.
On Saturday (6), Taiwan detected “several” Chinese aircraft and naval vessels participating in military exercises around the Taiwan Strait, in what could be a possible simulated attack against the island.
The Defense Ministry said some of China’s aircraft and ships had crossed the sensitive midline of the Taiwan Strait that separates the island from the Chinese mainland.
