Yandex announced the start of accepting applications for participation in testing unmanned taxis in Moscow. The first drones will appear in Yasenevo this fall, as this is one of the largest districts of the capital, where taxis are often used. As noted in the company’s press release, the car can be called in the Yandex Go application. Unmanned taxis will run near the Yasenevo, Novoyasenevskaya and Bitsevskiy Park metro stations, so users of the application will be able to drive them to the metro, shopping center or gym.
To participate in testing, you need to submit an application on the company’s website and wait for approval. Yandex warns that testing of unmanned taxis will take place in stages, so all applications are processed gradually. In the future, the company intends to expand the testing program, increase the number of cars and places where they will run.
Yandex began testing an unmanned vehicle for the first time in 2017. Four years later, the company already has a fleet of 170 drones that have driven more than 14 million kilometers on the roads of Russia, the United States and Israel. As for the unmanned taxi, its trials began in the summer of 2018 in Innopolis. For three years, passengers have used the service more than 20 thousand times.
