In Brussels for the 7th European Civil Protection Forum, Chr. Stylianidis

The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianidis, is in Brussels for the 7th European Forum for Civil Protection, which starts today, Tuesday 28 June, and will end tomorrow, Wednesday 29 June.

The Forum is organized by the European Commission and is one of the most important events at European level in the field of civil protection. More than 1,000 participants from national, regional and local bodies, EU institutions, NGOs, the scientific community and voluntary organizations, discuss and exchange views and experiences on all aspects of disaster risk management.

The central message of this year’s Forum is “Towards a faster, greener and smarter emergency management”.

According to a ministry statement, this is the first such Forum to be organized since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and will be an important platform for reflection on the role, today and in the future, of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, in particular with given its crucial contribution to both tackling the pandemic and the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

The event includes four main themes:

– Strengthening resilience to the effects of climate change – Preparing for extreme weather events

– Protecting our citizens – Adapting to new risks

– Europe in the world – Beyond our geographical borders

– Innovation and digitization – All knowledge together

Mr. Stylianidis will participate in a discussion on “How to respond to the next climate crisis?” (“How to respond to the next climate-related crisis?”), While on the sidelines he will have a series of meetings with European officials. The Minister will also meet with the Head of the Europe and Central Asia Regional Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), Octavian Bivol, with whom they will discuss cooperation issues with the UN on the basis of promoting the Sendai Framework objectives. 2015-2030.

Executives of the Ministry’s Directorate of International and European Relations will also participate as speakers at the Forum.
