The Federal Police, together with the Special Operations Company of the Military Police of the State of Amazonas (COE) and the Civil Police of the State of Amazonas (DRCO and CORE), carried out the largest seizure of cocaine ever recorded in the history of Amazonas, totaling more than two tons of the substance.
The action took place last Sunday (5) in a river area close to the city of Codajás. The drug shipment was being transported across the Solimões River by a group of heavily armed drug traffickers in an armored boat.
To reach the gang, the state security forces had support from DIRANDRO, the Anti-Drug Directorate in Peru. The country makes up the triple border (Brazil/Peru/Colombia) and produces a large part of the cocaine that enters Brazil through the state of Amazonas. The operation also had support from the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), which is the United States' anti-drug agency.
In addition to the drugs, authorities seized six large-caliber rifles, a shotgun, six grenades, various ammunition and an armored boat equipped with four engines.
Investigations are ongoing to identify everyone involved in this criminal scheme.
