The effectiveness of the Cuban vaccine against the coronavirus Soberana02 was 62% after taking two doses, according to the press service of the developer company BioCubaFarma on Twitter.
The company emphasized that 62% efficiency was obtained after two doses of the vaccine, while the full course of vaccination consists of three doses. The statement did not indicate what kind of effectiveness is meant: against infection with COVID-19 in general or against severe cases.
The company promises to publish efficacy information soon after three doses of the vaccine.
- At various stages of testing, Cuba now has five anticancer vaccine candidates: Soberana 01 and 02, Abdala, Mambisa (nasal drug) and Soberana + (immunity booster vaccine for those who have been ill).
- Cuba has been successfully producing its own vaccines for several decades (the main reason for this is the US embargo). In the mandatory immunization scheme for citizens, out of 11 vaccines, eight are produced in Cuba.
- In March 2021, Cuba began vaccinating hundreds of thousands of medical workers and researchers with two proprietary COVID-19 vaccines, without waiting for trials to end.
