According to a press release from the UNFICYP press office, Mr. Stewart stated that he looks forward to the continuation of the United Nations work in Cyprus.

Mr Stewart will meet with the two leaders, other senior officials, members of civil society, members of the diplomatic community and the United Nations family across the island in the coming weeks, the statement said.
According to this announcement, Mr. Stewart, who until recently served as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) (2017-2021), may carry out work through a long line of leadership, diplomacy and effective management achievements, with over 28 years of experience in peace and security and international affairs.
Prior to MINURSO, she served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff to the United Nations Office in Africa (UNOAU) in Addis Ababa and was appointed to several United Nations field missions, including Deputy of the United Nations in East Timor (UNMIT) (2007-2009).
He was a diplomat from 1990 to 1997, a graduate of Laval University in Canada. He speaks fluent English and French.
