Power dispatchers of the Sergokalinsky branch of Dagenergo discovered a sharp surge in electricity consumption in one of the sections of the power grid. However, in this section, no new connections to the grid were recorded in the register of consumers. As a result of the inspection, employees of the power supply company, with the assistance of the police, came across an illegally connected mining farm.
The underground miners built a special underground shelter where they placed 17 ASIC miners, presumably the Whatsminer M50 model. The total energy consumption of the underground farm was about 56 kWh, and the cost of the technological equipment exceeded 2 million rubles.
The Chairman of the Government of Dagestan Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov said at a meeting of the management of Dagenergo that underground miners are constantly coming up with new ways to steal electricity. Mobile mining platforms were discovered in the republic that are used to conceal illegal activities in the extraction of digital assets, the official said.
Earlier, the founder of the Russian mining company BitRiver, Igor Runets, told participants of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok that cryptocurrency mining in the country will become a transparent and profitable business for law-abiding citizens and law-abiding companies.
