Acting Director of Dagenergo, a branch of the Rosseti of the North Caucasus, the Rosseti of the North Caucasus, reported in Dagestan an experiment to identify illegal miners.

For the audit, two villages were selected, whose inhabitants complained about interruptions in the supply of electricity and demanded a solution to the problem from the authorities. For a short time in the villages, communication operators turned off access to the Internet, and the power engineers measured a change in the load on the energy network. After the Internet is turned off, the network load fell by 3.2 MW. Power engineers suggested that at least 900 cryptocurrencies cause such a load.

“For understanding: 3.2 megawatts is a power that can provide energy supply to 1,500 houses. These villages recorded 849 personal accounts (households). However, the substation serves not only these houses, but also a mining equipment, which, in terms of consumption of the power required for 1,500 houses. This leads to low voltage and frequent shutdowns, ”Gadzhiev said.

Joint work with providers will continue, and in other villages of Dagestan they will turn off the Internet for similar research, the representative of Dagenergo said.

Earlier, the Minister of Energy and Tariffs of Dagestan, Marat Shikhaliev, said that in 2024, damage to the power engineers from the activities of mining farms in the republic amounted to at least 353 million rubles.
