In Davos, Brazil will fight the idea that it is an “environmental villain”, assesses an economist

Economist and CEO of OhmResearch Roberto Attuch believes that the presence of Environment Minister Marina Silva at the World Economic Forum, in Davos, is “very important.”

In an interview with CNN Radio he stated that Brazil was seen as an “environmental villain” during the previous government and that Marina’s trip to the event should start to reverse this idea.

“Brazil can be reinserted in this debate on the environment in a positive way”, he defended.

For Attuch, any investment in the “green and environmental area” will be good for Brazil.

“The country should attract global investments with a positive environmental impact”, he added.

The economist recalls that public and private investments have already been contracted globally to achieve carbon neutrality in a value of more than 100 trillion dollars.

“That is, there is room for Brazil to capture these investments,” he said.

According to the expert, a report by economists at the Forum already points out that the global recession is inevitable, even if it is possibly “softer than expected.”

Attuch assesses that this will be one of the main topics discussed in Davos.

He points out that the “worsening cost of living has already happened”, with the inflationary shock in 2022, Central Banks raised interest rates to control the situation and, now, economies are slowing down and entering recession”.

The World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland, starts this Monday (16th), with the presence, in addition to Marina Silva, of Finance Minister Fernando Haddad.
