Egyptian archaeologists have discovered a new piece of their country’s history. In the city of Sohag, about 300 ancient tombs were found, carved right into the rock. According to preliminary estimates of scientists, the burials were made during the period of the Old Kingdom (about 2000 BC). This is stated on the website of the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.
The tombs were discovered during excavations of an ancient necropolis, they differed from each other in architectural style and were dug at different levels of the rock.
Among the burials found, the sloped tomb was especially distinguished, which was equipped with a false door and an additional side entrance leading to a gallery with a grave shaft.
In addition to tombs, archaeologists found in the voids many household items, as well as various objects that could be used as a sacrifice.
