In Gomel, Belarus, a court controlled by the self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko sentenced a 15-year-old to two years in a special closed-type educational institution. The prosecution considers him to be the administrator of the Telegram channel “Data of the Punishers of Belarus”, according to the local TV channel Gomel.
The assistant prosecutor said in court that the teenager allegedly urged the channel’s subscribers to donate for its development, but in fact he spent money on his own needs – for example, he bought a scooter.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus claims that the teenager confirmed that he posted information with the data of the Belarusian security forces. They say that they allegedly identified the subscribers who sent this data, their actions will be assessed.
The prosecutor’s office intends to collect the funds that the teenager received in the form of donations from subscribers in favor of the state. This is more than 1,500 Belarusian and 5,000 Russian rubles (about UAH 18,000), Belsat reports.
On January 22, a Belarusian court sentenced 18-year-old Sofia Malashevich and Tikhon Klyukach to two and one and a half years in prison, respectively, for participating in a protest against Lukashenka.
